It’s no secret that too many carbohydrates are bad for your waistline and for your health too as obesity is a serious issue. The key problem here is that over the last few hundred years we have moved away from eating primarily meat and vegetables, to eating mainly grains and processed food, not surprisingly obesity has spiked and lots of various health problems now exist because of it. Our bodies are not designed to take this sort of diet, we’re built to eat meat and vegetables. Luckily for us, we’ve got extremely adaptable bodies. What about your pug though? Let’s talk Paleo Diet for Pugs! Also if they lose some weight, it’s the ideal time to get some winter outfits!
Sadly though, grains are also cheaper and easier to produce, thus our dog food is also a high carb diet, which our dogs have not adapted too, so although dogs live a less stressful and healthier life than us in general, this diet is effecting them like it or not, enter the Paleo Diet for Pugs
“These grains are cheap and economical,” says Will Post, Founder and CEO of Hound & Gatos, a high-quality paleo pet food company. “When you look at all the processed and commercial foods nowadays, it’s almost all carbs. Going back to the ancient times where we ate basic meat and vegetables, and no commercial foods or processed foods, I believe it was a lot healthier”
The good news is that nowadays we have access to products online and we don’t even need to leave the house, which is more convenient and cheaper.
If you want to try this out with your dog, especially if they are an older pug, it can really help bring them back to life, then you have a couple of options to go with.
- Amazon have a tonne of different Paleo Dog food options you can use here
- Amazon also has it’s own brand “Wag” that does Paleo food, like this one
- Raw Pet Foods also has a Grain Free Section
- If you want to go all out, Pet Plate, will send you custom meals for your dog
Personally I would recommend starting with the Amazon own brand, it’s the cheapest way to try the effects of the diet on your dog and if you notice after 60 days that they are much more active and alert, then perhaps try Raw Pet Foods or Pet Plate but they will be more expensive.
